Educating the next generation of leaders

Mt. Lebanon Orphanage

Since 2013 ACP World Wide has been working with Mt. Lebanon Orphanage in Kampala, Uganda.

This orphanage was founded by Fred and his wife. Both positive for HIV, they wanted to provide a safe home for children orphaned by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Uganda, some of whom are HIV positive themselves. The staff at Mt. Lebanon not only teach and care for the basic needs of the children but also make sure they have access to medication. In 2016 ACP was able to bring running water to the property and build a bathroom with flushing toilet and showers. Additional projects have included rat proof kitchen cabinets and walls for the main school/church building.

In 2023, thanks to the generosity of many donors, ACP purchased farm land. This farm will produce crops for the orphanage and provide more space for it to grow. The funds for the farm were given in honor of Travis Maki who passed away in 2023.

Sponsor a Student

According to the UN, only 1 in 3 girls will complete lower secondary school.

ACP seeks to improve lives through access to education. For most children the greatest barrier to education is cost. We pair both boys and girls from the orphanage with sponsors in the United States who cover the cost of school fees and supplies. This allows students to complete their education and improve not just their lives, but the lives of those around them.

If you are interested in sponsoring a student please let us know!

Shar School

"In the summer of 2020, I began giving Shar the opportunity to earn pocket money by teaching basic skills to 3-4 little children in her neighborhood.

Three years later, she’s greatly expanded her little Shar School.  Every week she sends me attendance sheets signed by her students, and every quarter she sends me an accounting of the money she’s spent for “salaries” for herself and her helper, educational materials, treats, and holiday celebrations, and a budget for the coming quarter. "

- Greg, Shar's Sponsor

Update from the Farm

A note from Travis' Maki's mom who has been the driving force behind the farm:

Exciting developments are underway at the orphanage in Uganda! Many of you met Will Sherman at Travis’s Celebration of Life. Not only was he a close friend of Travis, but Will and his organization, ACPworldwide.org, are dedicated advocates for orphans.

In Uganda, Travis collaborated with Will on various projects, and I’d like to share updates on the funds you generously donated to the Travis Maki Memorial Fund:

  • Land Acquisition: After months of negotiations and paperwork, we’ve successfully purchased 4 acres of tillable land. Your contributions made this possible, and we are partnering with a Ugandan subsidy, which does incur additional fees.

  • Renovations Underway: We are renovating farm buildings and a caretaker’s cabin. Caregivers have been hired, and essential services like electricity, water, and sewage are being installed. We’re also acquiring coffee and banana plants, seeds, and tools.

  • Transportation Enhancements: A motorcycle and a dump truck are needed, although we still need to establish a mechanical shop.

We are actively seeking financing to build new dormitories and secure sponsorships for the 55 orphans, which costs $1,700 per year for those who qualify for high school education.

I (Ann Maki) wanted to summarize his relentless dedication to making this orphanage a reality. Thank you for your continued support!
